What is a Retirement Village? KCW Today spoke to Eden Court about their forthcoming retirement village and care home on Battersea Park Road.
KCW: Tell us more about this new retirement community for London.
Eden Court: The easiest way to describe it is as a retirement village, but even these vary in what they provide. Eden Court, which is due to open next spring, will include 28 luxury one- and mtwo-bedroom retirement apartments and a care home providing nursing, residential and dementia care. But it’s not just about providing wonderful apartments, it’s just as important to provide great facilities and services and this is where Eden Court really sets itself apart. We certainly don’t want to be the stereotypical retirement development; the team will work hard to ensure this is a fun, social and caring community, within the larger community of Battersea.
KCW: So how do you intend achieving this?
Eden Court: We have a dedicated Events & Activities team who will organise a range of social events and functions based around the interests of the people living here. Obviously those living in the care home will have different wishes so we have members of the events team who work exclusively within the care home and then other members of the team who provide events and social functions for those living in the apartments. This can be anything from trips out to the theatre and walking clubs to wine tasting in the café-bar or yoga in the activity studio.
KCW: Café-bar and Activity Studio? Are these within the development? Eden Court: Yes, we are very lucky to have some fantastic facilities at Eden Court. As well as the café-bar and activity studio we also have a beautiful restaurant and hair and nail salon. We also have our own transport and driver providing a daily transport schedule. This could be anything from a trip to the shops to visiting a National Trust property. Again, it will be down to the residents to decide.
KCW: Tell us more about the apartments.
Eden Court: Apartments range in size from 450-800 sq ft and include fullyfitted German-made Hacker kitchens with Minerva worktops, Neff oven, ceramic hob and fridge. Main bedrooms have fully fitted wardrobes and a beautifully designed en-suite with level access shower.
All properties at Eden Court are sold on a 125-year lease with apartment owners paying a service charge which covers all your utility costs (heating, lighting, water) as well as providing a concierge service, transport service, dedicated activities and events team, village manager and admin team as well as the 24-hour emergency call system.
