The spectacular, panoramic view from the top, tenth floor of the Athenaeum Hotel has inspired the creation of a new, members’ style-club, named ‘The View’. The stunning skyline of the London cityscape mingles with nature in royal Green Park as it pervades the premises. The view is exceptional being from a horizontal aspect and uninterrupted.
‘The View was launched on 6th December, 2018 following major refurbishment at the Hotel by Martin Hulbert. It offers hotel guests a relaxed place to converse, discuss business and have a break from the rush of city life. They can attend cocktail master classes or mindfulness sessions. Delectable refreshments are available from the Hotel’s Michelin Starred Galvin Restaurant at all times.
The decor is imaginative with replica Blue Plaques adorning the walls which tell us Anthony Eden, Sir Jeffry Wyatville, Bert Ambrose, Constance Spry, Robert Peel, Beau Brummell and P.G Wodehouse all lived nearby in Mayfair. A display of black and white photographs shows Sir Winston Churchill, The Beatles, Mick Jagger, Sean Connery, Twiggy and Marilyn Monroe, so we had excellent company!
Guests at this very hospitable Launch were welcomed and addressed by Kerrin Wayne, General Manager, Charles Flynn, Sales Manager and it was a pleasure to meet Ramona Jalba, Marketing Manager. The Galvin Brothers, who had provided the delicious canapes, were present.
Ali Miller, Artist, in collaboration with the Hotel, has encapsulated the spectacular view in her designs which are engraved on champagne flutes for the Club. A crown represents England and home, nature is found in the unfettered butterflies fluttering in Green park. The scattered playing cards refer to the surreal world of childhood found in’Alice in Wonderland’ Ali has included iconic London street lamps and wings depicting London as a place of opportunity.
Ali’s work begins as collage and is whimsical, tinged with nostalgia. She shopped in Mayfair as a child and went on nature walks in Green Park. These memories have remained with her.
The Athenaeum is an independent family owned Hotel which has received many Awards. It has five stars and is famous for English afternoon teas and great Whiskey Bars of the world. In the first ever partnership of its kind, Michelin starred Chefs, the Galvin Brothers are in charge of all food and beverages throughout the Hotel day and night.
The bold style of the lounge and double storey lobby are designed by British Agency, Kinnersley, Kent Design and have floor to ceiling windows which seem to bring Green Park indoors.
The Spa is state of the art and rooms are available for large or small conferences.
I like the ‘Living Wall’ at the entrance designed by artist and research scientist, Patrick Blanc in 2009. It is a vertical garden created to echo the the royal park opposite.
There is an impressive programme of festive treats for Christmas and the New Year. The welcome will be warm and you will always remember a visit to ‘The View’.
