With the last of the summer bikinis, fake tan and shorts cleared in the shops, making way for all things fabulously autumnal, you’ve got a great excuse for some retail therapy. Luckily we’ve tracked down the latest shopping news to keep you occupied over the next four weeks.
London’s boutiques, bookshops and pop-up stores have really pulled out the stops this month, with a stellar line-up of events and offers. Take your pick…
London Pop-Ups and New Concessions
Elbows at the ready: the Mulberry sample sale is coming to The Music Rooms, 26 South Molton Street, from 3rd-7th October. You have between 09:00-20:00 each day to track down a bargain, but we’d advise getting there early, and make sure you pre-register via the Mulberry website. With up to 75% off products, there’s no reason not to reach for the credit card.
In-demand illustrator Hattie Stewart has designed a new Carnaby tote bag, which you can pick up for free from Newburgh Street on 7th October from 13:00-14:00. If free food is more your thing, head to Westfield Stratford for KitKat’s ‘Chocolatory’ pop-up from 5th October – 8th November, and design your own milk, white or dark chocolate bar with three of 16 toppings. You’ll also have the chance to buy two limited edition varieties by Michelin-starred chef Michael O’Hare.
Shop for distinctive art bargains at the Old Truman Brewery, where the Other Art Fair is open to the public from 7th-9th October. Alternatively, indulge a passion for vintage fashion at Chelsea Old Town Hall’s Frock Me Vintage Fair on 9th October (entry £4 or £2 for students; 11:00-17:30).
Should your shoes be worn out after intense pursuit of a good purchase, swing by the Miista pop-up shop in Shoreditch (67 Redchurch Street, Mon-Sat 11:00-19:00, Sun 11:00-17:00, until 24th November) and find a brand new pair. Anyone wishing to donate old pairs of shoes through the store’s Shoe Amnesty initiative – as part of the Evening Standard’s Dispossessed Fund charity campaign – receives a 20% discount on the new collection.
Debenhams introduces Elizabeth Arden’s Red Door Spa services to its Oxford Street store, where fans of the beauty brand can enjoy a range of treatments including microdermabrasion, LED facials and 15 minute ‘Speed Service’ skincare experiences designed for time-poor women. From 24th October, enjoy in-store treats through ‘Discover the Red Door Experience’, with over 1,000 treatments and consultations for customers.
Over in Marylebone, a new 2,000 square foot branch of Jaeger is opening on 27th October. The store, on Marylebone High Street, will be spread across two floors.
Think of the Daunt Books Autumn Festival, 6th-7th October, as your interactive literary shopping list. Hear fiction and non-fiction authors in conversation, covering topics as diverse as the SAS, Monet and a snake that may or may not be real. Buy tickets online – prices range from free to £10pp, or £45 for an entire festival pass – or buy them instore (83 Marylebone High Street).
Thanks to bodycare brand Mio, this month you have several chances to take a Pilates class at Space NK, 40 Hans Crescent. 45 minute classes will be held on 6th and 13th October at 12:00, 14:00 and 18:30, costing £15pp (suitable for ages 18+. Then you’ll welcome the news that online retailer Tall Girls is hosting a pop-up at Rooms on Regents Park, 27 Sussex Place, on 8th October (10:00-17:30).
