Brasserie Blanc to take on 21 apprentices

Raymond Blanc has long been renowned for mentoring and training young people at his restaurants. Now the two star Michelin chef has joined forces with The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, to issue a rallying call to the capital’s food and hospitality sectors to take on more young people as apprentices. 


In a sector that employs around 300,000 people in London alone, Raymond Blanc shares The Mayor’s belief that there is huge potential for many more food and hospitality businesses to get involved and help introduce young people to a sector that offers such a range of fantastic opportunities.


Raymond has stepped up to the plate himself by taking on an incredible 21 apprentices at Brasserie Blanc restaurants, not only in London but across the UK. They will work in a range of hospitality roles, including trainee chefs and front of house staff.


Aged between 16 and 19, the apprentices will be assigned a mentor within the business and will also be assessed and supported by the De Vere Training Academy, representatives from which will meet with them on a monthly basis


The programme will be split into modules, some of which are based around NVQs. Each apprentice will receive a final certificate on completion.


Raymond Blanc said: “As an employer I want to provide a nurturing, caring environment to give young people the very best chance to succeed.  I know that many of my colleagues also believe that it is vital that the restaurant & hospitality sector has home-grown talent to develop the necessary skills for the future;  long term our businesses will gain from it. 


I am self-taught and it was hard - I longed for a mentor to guide me through my career - so I am 100 per cent behind the Mayor’s drive to bring as many young people into our business and to give them the best chance to excel.”


The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, added: “It is absolutely fantastic to have someone of Raymond’s calibre spearheading our drive to help the food industry wake up to the power of apprenticeships.”
