Dismay at threatened closure of South Kensington Post Office

0

Residents of South Kensington are dismayed at the threat to close their local
Post Office within yards of the tube station. Used by pensioners,
patients from the Royal Marsden and Royal Brompton Hospitals, Imperial
College students and customers of local shops, this Post Office also provides a
vital service to travellers on the 8 bus route which converges at the tube station.
Caroline Doggart, a 79 year old disabled pensioner living close to the Post Office,
said “I’m devastated by this threat. I can just manage to walk to the South Kensington
post office from our flat in the Fulham Road. I use the Post Office a lot and the
nearest other Post Office in Gloucester Road has no step free access.”
Local MP, Emma Dent Coad, is understood to share these concern and is expected to
attend a meeting in the House of Commons on 11th March to discuss the broader threat
of other closures following the privatisation of the Post Office.
