The Friends charity, raise money for Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, for the benefit of patients, their families and staff.
Celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, the charity relies on large donations and supporters, but is also dependent on its smaller entrepreneurial fundraisers such as the hospital’s book shop and trolley service.
One of their vital fundraising schemes, the fortnightly Bric-a-Brac stall that sells second hand goods, are calling on KCW readers to support the charity and donate whatever unwanted household items they can to the stall.
Jewellery, cuddly toys, china, kitchenware and new handmade knitted baby clothes are all needed and every sale is a huge help for the charity and the hospital.
Since 2016, the charity has been working on the expansion, development and decoration of Butterfly Rooms for the hospital’s End-of-Life care programme.
Butterfly Rooms are spaces where family members can say goodbye to their loved-ones in private, away from the hustle, bustle and often stress of the general ward.
They also grant bursaries to other projects that they deem to be beneficial to the development of the hospital.
Whilst all the money is reinvested back into helping the hospital with its necessary projects, the Bric-a-Brac stall is run by a group of very friendly, fervent volunteers.
One volunteer, Clare Johnstone, said: ‘the hospital has done so much for me, I decided to give something back.
You also get to know the patients and interact with them.’
They’re passionate about the work the charity do and are urging anyone who has any unwanted items to donate them as soon as possible.
Volunteer Nigel Massey said: ‘we are looking for readers to bring anything they like in. Please show your support in a small way.’
Drop donations of cuddly toys, kids toys, jewellery, DVD’s, china, hand crafts, knitwear, jigsaw puzzles and cooking things off at the stall itself or alternatively they can be left at the Friends shop or office located by the escalators in the main entrance.
The stall is open every other Wednesday from 10am-2pm and most items are sold for less than the bargain price of £5.
It can be found in the main foyer, near the entrance and by the escalators, in Chelsea and Westminster hospital, 369 Fulham Rd, Chelsea, London SW10 9NH.
