Royal Selangor Augments V&A Collaboration with Streamline and William Morris

Since 1996, Royal Selangor’s partnership with the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A), the world’s leading museum of art and design has produced timeless collections imbued with historical provenance and complement modern living. The collaboration has been further explored with Streamline and William Morris.

Streamline translates the old-school glitz of the roaring twenties into contemporary home décor. The collection is inspired by the Art Deco movement that spanned the boom of the roaring 1920s and the bust of the Depression- ridden 1930s. Art Deco is arguably the most popular style of the 20th century and one that has enormous appeal for people all over the world today.

This geometric, linear pattern is a reference to a rug by the celebrated textile designer, Marion Dorn (1899–1964). Marion Dorn came to England from San Francisco in the early 1920s. By the mid-1930s she was acclaimed as a leading freelance textile designer. She carried out commissions for the London hotels Claridge’s and the Savoy, and for the ocean liners Orion and the Queen Mary. The fluid concentric curves are typical of the bold luxury of the Deco Movement and translate beautifully onto this pewter product. The collection consists of a valet tray, serving tray, trinket box, pendant, candlestand, hip flask and bottle chiller.

William Morris brings the beauty of nature to the fore in the latest collection of wine accessories. The collection is inspired by the titular 19th century English textile designer, artist, writer, and socialist associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement which promoted simple design, reinforced by the highest standard of craftsmanship and materials. The grape and vine motif in the William Morris collection is derived from the ornamental borders for The History of Godefrey of Boloyne (1893) and The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer (1896) by his own Kelmscott Presse.  William Morris comprises a decanter, bottle chiller, corkscrew, wine funnel, bottle stopper, wine pourer and foil cutter.

Established in 1852, The V&A is the world’s leading museum or decorative art and design. Housing a permanent collection of over 2.3 million objects that span over 5,000 years of human creativity, the museum holds many of the UK’s national collections and houses some of the greatest resources in the fields of arts and fashion.

Streamline and William Morris is available at any Royal Selangor retail store, authorised dealers and online at royalselangor.com.
