The new-born Price of Cambridge, fifth in line to the throne, was born at 11.01am weighing 8lbs 7oz and it has been announced that both mother and baby are doing well. The birth of the newest member of the royal family falls on St George’s day, a fitting birthday for a potential King.
Because of the decision made by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge prior to Prince George’s birth, this baby will not overtake Princess Charlotte’s claim to the throne.
Shortly after 8.20am Kensington Palace announced that The Duchess of Cambridge had gone into labour and had been admitted to the Lindo Wing in the early stages of labour.
Excited fans of the Royal Family soon arrived outside St Mary’s Hospital, eager to be present for the birth of the Queen’s sixth great-grandchild. They were optimistic about a swift delivery; Princess Charlotte being born just 34 minutes after Kate arrived at the Lindo Wing in May 2015, and did not have a long wait before the arrival of the new Prince was announced.
