Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to give her keynote speech at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester this afternoon.
In a conference that has been characterised by political infighting and bickering between senior ministers, it is understood that May will seek to divert attention towards the unveiling of new council house plans.
As part of these plans, Prime Minister May will announce a substantial expansion in council housing, including measures to make it easier for authorities to get land.
After Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson praised Mrs May for her “steadfast” leadership yesterday, the following 24 hours will be a critical period for the Conservative Party.
It will be left to Mrs May in her speech this afternoon to try to unify her own party before attacking the Labour Party, who have made significant gains across the country over the past 6 months.
