Since 1871, the Royal Albert Hall has played host to everyone from Edward Elgar to Ed Sheeran, via Winston Churchill, The Beatles and Adele. Now, the Hall’s new Young Producers scheme will give 18 to 25-year-olds the chance to curate their own mini-series of events, providing a pathway into the industry for prospective programmers.

Applications are currently with those selected announced in September, before a six-month crash course in programming, marketing and event management, climaxing with the two nights of events on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 April, 2018.

Artistic Director at the Royal Albert Hall, Lucy Noble, said: “We want to give young people a voice – and a chance. The Young Producers scheme will not just allow those taking part to funnel their passion and ideas into creating unforgettable events, but also equip them with skills essential to pursue a career in the arts.

“The Hall is committed to fostering a love of music in young people, attracting new audiences and creating a uniquely diverse programme, so we’re incredibly excited by this new project.”

The events will be held in the Hall’s second space, the Elgar Room, where Dame Judi Dench and Sir Laurence Olivier once trained, and Sinead O’Connor, Paloma Faith, Laura Mvula and Britain’s Got Talent winner, Tokio Myers have appeared, alongside two other venues: Verdi and the North Circle Bar.

No previous experience is needed to apply for the programme, but a passion for the arts and an interest in pursuing a career in the creative industries is essential. While degree holders may apply, that isn’t a pre-requisite. Those taking part must, though, be able to commit to the programme schedule of fortnightly meetings from 1-4pm between late September 2017 and early April 2018.

The Young Producers scheme is part of the Hall’s Education & Outreach programme, which includes everything from music therapy to free tuition and workshops with the likes of Chvrches, Sigma and Jake Bugg. The closing date for applications is 8th September 2017.
