Chelsea Old Town Hall will welcome the Festival of Crafts, Jashan-e-Huner, this May.

British Pakistani businesswoman Anita Ali has brought the exhibition to Chelsea to showcase Pakistani arts and crafts made by women, and to open up opportunities in Britain for these skilled artisans.

Ali is the founder of company Huner – which translates as art, craft, skill or adroitness – which seeks to promote the work of Pakistani artists and craftswomen.

The artisans featured in the exhibition will exhibit pieces including clothing, jewellery, silverware, ceramics and embroidery.

‘There are so many highly skilled and talented women artisans in Pakistan producing unique and high quality art and craft’, said Ali. ‘Although well known in Pakistan, these designers haven’t had much exposure in Britain’, she explained.

The event is supported by the All Pakistan Women Association (APWA) UK.

The exhibition opens on Monday 22nd May from 10.30am, with a reception from 6.30pm until 8.30pm. It runs through until Wednesday 24th May and closes with a dinner and Qawali musical performance.
