The Chinese pavilion that’s a bit of a landmark in NW9 is getting a much needed refurb. Situated just north of the North Circular some KCW types may think its pushing the envelope a bit to call this London, but devotees of pan Asian food that don`t mind a bit of exploring will find the largest collection of Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Indian, Vietnamese, Singaporean, Taiwanese and Malaysian cuisine under one roof in the capital.
33 Individual kiosks that open onto a huge 450 seat food court will bridge the gap between street food and restaurant style dishes, and the aim is to offer an authentic Asian Street Food Market vibe. For those who want a bit more up market experience there`s a flagship restaurant, the Golden Dragon offering dim sum lunches and a traditional Chinese menu for the evening.
Bang Bang translates as “good good” in Mandarin, and to keep the positive Yin Yang forces flowing there`s naturally a eco edge to the site, as well as a mezzanine floor that’s going to have the inevitable herbal medicine outlet, massage, nail and beauty boutiques. The food court is never going to be a space to book a special anniversary, but I`m looking forward to seeing if this refurb can reinvigorate the space, and dispel the miasma of groundnut cooking oil that can linger over lesser establishments.
Bang Bang Oriental Foodhall, 399 Edgware Rd, NW9 0AS is due to open this Summer, 11am until 10pm
