The Baby Cot Shop, established in the UK in 2008, is an upmarket retailer of baby and children’s furniture and decor and has opened their first boutique. The new space showcases a selection of their baby furniture, linens and room décor. The boutique is styled in a variety of vignettes showing complete nursery room sets ranging from the timeless and traditional to the playful and modern.

The shop gives clients an overall experience as parents will be able to conceptualize the furniture, linens and decorative accessories like rugs and lighting in their own home. Besides choosing cots and changing tables, customers can try out The Baby Cot Shop’s ‘American style’ nursery glider chairs (popular with nursing mums) and choose to have it produced in a chosen fabric including the customer’s own material. The walls, which are painted in natural taupe feature whimsical, hand painted murals in the colours of the brand. Elements of period décor are employed like ornate dentil coving, decorative pillars and wall panelling; a nod to the company’s heritage furniture designs. Chelsea is a historic neighbourhood in London and Kings Road is associated with 1960s style, and fashion figures such as Mary Quant and Vivienne Westwood.

“We chose Chelsea, London because it represents elements of our business; nestled in the middle of The Kings road, we are surrounded by antique shops, art galleries, and high fashion boutiques,” said owner Toks Aruoture. “Our neighbours serve some of the finest meals in their restaurants and the rich history of the ’60s music scene can be seen all around us” The store is located a short distance from the Design Centre in Chelsea Harbour, a destination for design excellence. Chelsea & Westminster Hospital is also nearby.

The Baby Cot Shop serves as resource for interior designers; fabric swatches, rug & wallpaper samples as well as paint swatches are all available in the design area. The bespoke service offered by the brand is extended to private clients and interior designers alike. An experienced interior designer is on site to assist in the selection and decorating of children’s spaces, a complimentary service offered to all customers.

Following Aruoture return from the United States and Europe she became infused with the values of high quality and craftsmanship. She sourced furniture that was reminiscent of a bygone era. The company’s own designs are sold alongside hand-selected products from respected craftsmen. Their ethical wood sourcing policy is employed in the selection of partners, choosing to work only with companies that respect their workers and the environment.
