Tram derailed in Croydon leaving five dead and 50 injured

A tram derailed at Croydon near Sandilands station this morning leaving five people dead and 50 injured in hospital. It has been confirmed today by British Transport police, the driver of the tram has been arrested.

Several fire fighters were at the scene with special equipment to free trapped passengers.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of those who have lost their lives today, and everyone involved in this incident,” Said Mayor of London Sadiq Khan. “I am in close contact with the emergency services and Transport for London, who are working extremely hard under very difficult circumstances to get the situation under control and treat those who have been injured.”
Khan added that the police have set up a number for friends and family to call for information on 0800 0560154.
